Could a weekend be any more lovely than the one captured by the image above. Yes, we ate our weight in cake and feared we might expire from sugar, colouring and glitter overload, but what a way to go eh? Helping to judge the Great Didsbury Bake Off at a local school, faced with over 50 sugary entrants and assisting chief judges Corrie & Waterloo Rd star & local mum Tina O’Brien, chef extraordinaire Robert Owen Brown, food blogger Liz & cake whizz Emma, me & niece Thea got stuck in along with local blogger Jane. #GBBO has worked it’s magic in Manchester, the standard was SO high. Professional enough for chef Rob to offer employment to the maker of one of the chutneys and then pocket the whole jar to take home 🙂
Quote of the day goes to Rob 3/4 of the way round with “Please God, can someone make it stop” when faced with another 4 succulent chocolate cakes. Emma fretted about non-edible glitter, Liz wished she’d not had *quite* so many whiskeys the night before and Tina sneaked off early with the excuse of a children’s party! You don’t keep a TV star’s figure by tasting 50 cakes 😉
There was no overall winner but lots of ‘best with their categories’, which made for a very fair day and lots of happy bakers. We judges, slightly green around the gills, might just about get our appetite for cake back sometime around June.
Well done to community heroine Clare for organising, you’re a superstar x
PS Loved the pic below by photographer Ben Sedman which featured the gorgeous mosaic by Amanda McCrann that Mr M & I balanced precariously on a ladder to install in West Didsbury a couple of years ago. It’s the first time our DIY has even been featured on artwork *proudface*
