Team Checkatrade & Our ‘Trade Secrets’ at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show 2018

General-pic-CROP with logo 674 x 400Delighted to reveal that I’ll be helping to host the brand new for 2018 Checkatrade ‘Trade Secrets’ stage for the Homebuilding and Renovating Show this September 21st – 23rd at London’s Excel. I can’t wait!
Current status? Zipping round the country meeting lots of home renovators for a brand new BBC2 property show and am not kidding when I say I was literally only talking about this renovating-dedicated show yesterday with one of them. She’s been to the show twice already in the run up to her huge extension and redesign starting, and is planning to go again in a few weeks. It kinda tells you something about the quality of a show when that happens. I’ve been before as a visitor and throughly enjoyed it – bringing away heaps of info and brochures – but never worked with them or hosted at the show, so this one’s a big deal for me!

The idea is that if you’re a bit lost with where to start on your own reno, extension, conversion or new build, the show will help you find all the ideas, products and advice you might need to make such an undertaking a cost effective and well planned success. Just like that 😉

As well as stuff like….

  • Free 15 minute bookable advice sessions. Bring your plans to the show and get free impartial advice with industry experts
  • A massive range of exhibitors with all the newest and most innovative products on the market
  • Handy tricks and tips from leading architects, planners and designers covering a range of topics from interior renovations to building extensions
  • Real Homes advice centre – get the latest interior and style advice from our Real Homes design experts ( I should be on this really shouldn’t, given I work with them all the time – have you seen their newly launched mag?!

There’s also… us 🙂ee8cf1de-b91e-4123-8d06-56d3e7ee3432The brand new Trades Secrets stage where myself, Jo Dyson, Michael Homes, Mike   Edwards and Andy Stevens will be hosting a series of seminars, along with other invited experts, designed to give you the confidence to get cracking and let you into a few of our, yep you guessed it, trade secrets. With sessions such as…

  • Updating Your Kitchen
  • Extending To Add Space – How to ensure your project finishes on time and on budget
  • Garden Projects – How to get it right
  • Loft, Garage and Cellar Conversions – Making the most of your space

… there’s something for everyone and we’ll not only be passing on tips but also taking your questions – so get ’em lined up!

We did a very windy photo shoot today especially for the show high up on a roof in London, and it was fab to meet the rest of the hosts. Me & Jo in hard hats, not due to imminent danger of falling bricks but more to keep hair under control on high building.

Idris Elba needs to step away because my chum and property expert Michael Holmes is most certainly going to be the next James Bond. Though his Bond girls need to learn how to pose and his security need better guns than ones full of caulk!Homebuilding and Renovating Show 2018 Team Checkatrade
Thanks so much to Ideal Home who’ve written up a feature on our reno Airbnb Experiences this week and linked it up to the show – so lovely of you! You can read it HERE. Amy called our walking workshops ‘genius’ and I’ve come to the conclusion that waking up to read something you’ve created described that way is the best way to wake up. How does one ensures this happens every day, apart from being some kind of inventor, um, genius. This may* never happen to me again. I’m gonna milk it.

Anyone, back to the point of the blog post. Come down to Excel in a few weeks and join in our seminars. Here’s the full session diary for our three days with lots of time slots!

See you there x

There are definitely some shots which won’t make it into the official brochure. I need to learn that the camera always captures a good gurn…

And also I need to learn not automatically climb on stuff. All the colour drained from the PR’s lady’s face, I was quite rightly and immediately asked to get down, Jo’s hat was still fighting with her  but Michael was still, yep, a photographer’s dream.25580b76-a659-4b27-9b6d-98600bcb5193
