A little Heart Art goes a long, lovely way

Cat sitting on chalk painted Heart ArtThought you might like to see some images from our fab Valentine’s event in aid of the Love Withington Baths campaign, which most of you know Mr M & I have been involved with for a little over a year. A group of us are currently working on a business plan which will hopefully see the building & facility transferred over to the community in Spring 2015 (from which time Manchester City Council have said they no longer wish to either run it or keep it open) via a mechanism called Community Asset Transfer.

To mark the one year anniversary of us handing over our 8,000 petition on Feb 14th last year, we held a mini-craft event, with handmade Valentine’s cards, fun on the pool inflatable, lots of luscious cake and a Heart Art board, lovingly crafted in the Moregeous kitchen with some MDF and my favourite Annie Sloan chalk paint, in Pure white & Burgundy crimson. We’ve had some things strapped to the top of our car, but never an 8ft heart!

Two coats of red, two coats of white and forty or so proffered hands plonked randomly around the board, then signed = a lovely momento of a community Valentine’s Day. Rather than wax it, I’ve varnished it for longevity…. this Art has to last another 100yrs, just like we want the baths to! As you can see from the image above, Missy insisted on putting her, um, print on it too.

2014-02-16_0001Thanks so much to Pauline from Flo’s Foods for donating some amazing cupcakes and to Anna from Dishes & Spoons for succulent Red Velvet cakes – both well worth checking out if you’re looking to buy locally baked cakes in the Manchester area.

Also to Hannah from My Craftea Day and Kate from KatePSews for all their craft and handmade help with the children’s cards – I so hope we can take craft and learning events at the Baths from strength to strength as the building and centre develops x
