This poor kitchen with it’s hideous pine ceiling (Why oh why do people do this? An obsession with Swedish saunas?!) and dated units was loathed by the owner and I was asked to organise the kitchen re-design. The room wasn’t a bad size for a kitchen, approx 2.5m x 4m, but there were 3 doors in and out, a large window, plus the client wanted an over-sized American style fridge freezer and large range oven, plus a table area. Not much then!!
They wanted a natural grey slate for the floor, with underfloor heating, white gloss units with a granite surface and some funky lighting. Phewf.
But it all fitted, eventually, with a bespoke glass table made in a kidney shape to curve away from the fridge, plus a digitally printed blind which is a one off from a print chosen by the client. The kitchen was featured in Move or Improve Magazine.

I actually love the slate floor – would never have thought of it. Is it good for kitchens?
Growing up in South Africa (I live in another conutry now) I recall having a lot of slate but mostly outside – and I *think* I recall it absorbing and staining a lot, no?
